Alberta’s Apprenticeship and Industry Training website, Tradesecrets, has the information you need to work in a trade in Alberta. Build your career with an apprenticeship that combines on-the-job training provided by your employer with classroom instruction through a post-secondary institution. As an apprentice, you will learn practical skills through work experience and hands-on-training that will meet the needs of current and future employers. You can begin your apprenticeship by taking the following steps:

  • Earn while you learn!

Eligibility Requirements for an Apprenticeship Program

To be eligible to become an apprentice in Alberta, you must:

  • be a Canadian citizen, or
  • be a permanent resident of Canada, or
  • be a Convention refugee or protected person, or
  • be a Refugee Claimant in possession of a work permit, or
  • be an individual in possession of a Post-Graduation Work Permit, 

and

  • be a resident of Alberta, or 
  • Be primarily working in Alberta (in the scoop of the apprenticeship education program).
