Sheriff – Civil Enforcement: Document Service under the Hague Convention

The fee for Service of Foreign Documents under the Hague Convention is $100 Canadian per party to be served.
A receipt will be emailed to you once your payment has been processed. Please print the receipt and send it with your Request for Service Abroad of Judicial or Extrajudicial Documents as proof of payment.
The Sheriff-Civil Enforcement is the Central Authority for the service of foreign documents within Alberta Canada, as per the Hague Convention.
The Sheriff-Civil Enforcement DOES NOT forward documents for service in other member countries of the Hague Convention. To arrange service of documents outside of Alberta, please contact a member of the Law Society of Alberta or visit AUTHORITIES DESIGNATED BY THE HCCH MEMBERS AND CONTRACTING PARTIES for the contact information of the Competent or Central Authority for the country in which the documents are to be served.
In addition to the proof of payment, the following must be forwarded to the Sheriff-Civil Enforcement:
- Request for Service Abroad of Judicial or Extrajudicial Documents;
- Certificate/Attestation form;
- Warning/Avertissement;
- Summary of Documents to be served;
- Two (2) copies of documents to be served (one copy must be in English); and
- Proof of payment receipt.
A receipt will be emailed to you once your payment has been processed. Please print the receipt and send it with your Request for Service Abroad of Judicial or Extrajudicial Documents as proof of payment.
Failure to provide a receipt with your Request for Service Abroad of Judicial or Extrajudicial Documents will delay the service of the documents.
Refunds:
- Refunds will not be processed for this product.
- The fee covers the cost of processing your application and is required whether the service is successful or not.

Select your registry agent. Registry agents offer registration, information and licensing services on behalf of government. The Government of Alberta is working collaboratively with registry agents to bring more government services online. You are not required to visit the selected registry agent.
