Renew your ID card online. Once renewed, a printed copy of the digital download is required. You will receive your new ID card in the mail in approximately 10-14 days.

Terms & Conditions

You can renew your ID card online if:

  • You have a class 8 Identification card;
  • Your address is the same as it was at your last renewal;
  • Your mail is not being forwarded to another address;
  • You are over 18 years of age;
  • Your ID card is valid and has not expired;
  • Your last ID card renewal was completed at an Alberta registry agent;
  • Your photograph and signature on file is less than 10 years old; and
  • The address on the Motor Vehicle System matches the address on your verified Alberta.ca Account. You can view and update your verified information here - Alberta.ca Account.

Refunds

If the information provided does not match what is recorded in the Motor Vehicles System or requires updating, you will not be able to proceed online and you will need to visit a registry agent.

No refunds will be provided for this product and you will be responsible for the fees to update your ID card.

Digital Download

Once your purchase has been completed, you can download your ID card receipt from My Digital Downloads in the My Account section. Your ID card receipt can be displayed on your mobile device or printed on your home computer. A registry agent cannot access your digital download products.

Attention: Initial digital download of this product/service is only available between 6:00 am and 10:00 pm. If you are processing this request outside of these hours, your initial digital download will be available tomorrow at 6:00 am. Please note that it is an offence to alter or falsify, to be in possession of, or to use an altered or falsified document.

More Information

If you have recently moved or if the information provided does not match what is recorded in the Motor Vehicles System (i.e. your ID card does not have your current address), you will not be able to proceed online and you will need to visit a registry agent.

ID cards are valid for 5 years.

Once you receive your new ID card in the mail, you must securely destroy your previous ID card.
